I will be in Austin during SXSW but because of prior commitments, will not be able to attend the conference. I am planning a couple of dinners at a few my local hole-in-the-wall places if anyone is interested.

Last time I swung a club, I dislocated my left knee. I used my clubs as a walking stick and made my way back to the clubhouse to phone my wife (we only live 3 minutes away). She said she would come and take me to the hospital. I waited over an hour before getting into my car and drove home without changing gear (UK manual car). After parking outside my house, I made my way down the steps and into the house. “Where are you? You said you would pick me up an hour an a half ago” (a reasonable request I thought). “I am cooking the kid’s sunday lunch first, we might be a while” was the reply. Stay single Guys!

Honestly I don’t know where I’m staying … I’m roomin’ w/ Tamura and since you’re rooming w/ Watson my guess is we’ll be next door to each other?

I’ll warn you right now though, with work & kids I haven’t busted my clubs out for a year now … so expect some good laughs. Maybe I’ll clean em up and get out to a range tomorrow so I can pwn you all when we get there :)

For Martin and anyone else who wants to slum it a little, you’ve got two solid options.

The Butler Pitch and Putt is a very short 9-hole par 3 across the river from downtown, off Lamar between Barton Springs and Riverside. It’s a real craphole, but such is the charm. You can rent clubs for a buck apiece if you need to, and you’ll be fine with a wedge, a putter and maybe a short iron. It’s BYOB, and best played with tallboys in hand.

Across Barton Springs from Butler is Peter Pan Mini Golf, another institution. Two 18-hole courses of seriously old-school mini golf, with giant fiberglass dinosaurs and other random obstacles. It’s no Falconhead, but it’ll do.

Both courses are a couple/few blocks from a bunch of good restaurants and places to have a drink.

I am staying at the Hampton also. Although I was thinking of renting a car and heading to the Ben Hogan Museum one day, because I am a golf geek like that.
