The overwhelming majority of errors on most ABCNews pages now are ampersand-related and we’re just fine with that.

There’s a very easy way to fix ampersand issues, for instance in a PHP function:

function convert_to_valid_xhtml($text) {
return preg_replace(‘/&(?![a-z0-9#]+;)/’, ‘&’, $text);
}

Keep in mind I had to double-&ify the second argument to preg_replace in the source, so look at the version in the output, not the one in the source.

I, like Eric Meyer, don’t think that XHTML has any major real-world benefits right now over HTML
